James Richard Morrison

  James Richard Morrison, 81 years old, passed away on September 3, 2018 at his home with his family by his side. He was born on March 28, 1937 to the late Paul and Esther (Sherwood) Morrison. He graduated from South Zanesville High School. Richard married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Renner, on September 15, 1957.

     He enjoyed gardening, raised his own plants in his greenhouse and always had a beautiful garden. He loved giving the produce to family, friends, and neighbors. He donated produce and volunteered many years at the Rolling Plains fair stand. He was a longtime member of Rolling Plains United Methodist Church and served as a trustee for many years. Besides gardening, he enjoyed watching The Ohio State Buckeyes football and basketball games.

Richard worked at The Buckeye Supply Company for 30 years and then Mar-Zane Materials for 14 years until his retirement in 2001.

     Family gatherings were a big part of his life. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy (Renner) Morrison. One daughter, also his caregiver, Julie Ann Morrison. Two sons Jay R. Morrison and Edward (Sherry) Morrison, all of Zanesville. One twin sister Jane Ellen Williams and one brother Ronald (Peggy) Morrison. Five grandchildren Aaron Singer, Nicole Singer, Alie (Joey) Thompson, Samantha Morrison, Jayna (Brett Armstrong) Morrison and adopted grandson Christopher Jordan. Four step-grandchildren Stephanie (Keith) Evener, Shawna (Rob) Lowry, Samantha (Tyler) McElfresh, and Shane Crum. Two great-grandchildren Eddie and Mikey Thompson. Four step-greatgrandchildren Preston Evener, Braeden Evener, Rhett Evener, and Case Lowry. One sister-in-law Janet (Bob) McFarland. He had several nieces and nephews of which he loved all dearly. 

     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law Clarence Renner, mother-in-law Edith Renner, brother-in-law Ed Renner.

     Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wed. Sept. 5, 2018 at WILLIAM THOMPSON & SON FUNERAL HOME  5765 Gladstone Drive White Cottage where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thur. Sept. 6, 2018 with Pastor John Alice officiating along with Richard’s nephew Jim McFarland. Burial will be in Zanesville Memorial Park. Donations may be made in his memory to Rolling Plains United Methodist Church or Interim Hospice, 2806 Bell St., Zanesville, Ohio. A special thank you to the staff at Interim Hospice for their compassion and love in caring for Richard over his last two months with us.
