James W. “Jim” Ansel, 90, of South Zanesville, passed away in his home on Sun. Aug. 5, 2018. He was born on Jan. 21, 1928 in East Fultonham, Ohio , a son of the late Harold and Thelma (Barnett) Ansel. He was married to his high school sweetheart Arlene Ansel and they had four children; Kathryn (Pat) Bollinger, Karen Micheli, Zachary Ansel, and Keely (Jeff) McBride. He has fourteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. One brother Joseph (Starla) Ansel. One sister Carolyn Denton. A sister-in-law Juanita Gabriel, and a brother-in-law Ronald Taylor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Arlene Ansel, a sister Betty Taylor, brother-in-laws Russell Gabriel, Merlin Gabriel, Robert Gabriel, and Paul Denton, one grandchild Billy Joe Ansel. Jim was a rural letter carrier for 36 years, owned Ansel’s Laundromat, and was a co-owner of Southtown Sights and Sounds Video Store. Jim was an avid bowler and golfer. His nickname was “Pipeline”, because he hit the golfball straight down the fairway everytime. He was a member of the Gage &Gavel Masonic Lodge and the Amrou Grotto. He was a past member of the South Zanesville Fire Department for 28 years.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wed. Aug. 8, 2018 at WILLIAM THOMPSON & SON FUNERAL HOME 5765 Gladstone Drive White Cottage where funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thur. Aug. 9, 2018. Rev. Joy Wigal officiating. Burial will be in Zanesville Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to South Zanesville United Methodist Church 53 East Main St. South Zanesville, Ohio 43701.
