Larry Miller Obituary

Larry Dean Miller, 82, of Zanesville, passed away peacefully at home and went to be with his Lord on Dec. 24, 2018. He was born on Jan. 29, 1936 in Zanesville, a son of the late Clarence Clifford and Margaret Anna Wikehart Miller. Larry graduated from the last class at Lash High School in 1954, had retired after 35 years of service from General Electric in New Concord and had worked part-time for William Thompson and Son Funeral Home. He had also served on the Newton Township Volunteer Fire Department, was an active member of Rolling Plains United Methodist Church where he had served as a Volunteer Administrative Support Team Leader, sang in the choir, and was a member of The Plainsmen, a male chorus. He was a past member of the Limestone Valley Lions Club where he served as Cabinet Secretary, and the Zanesville Y-City Barbershop Chorus for twenty plus years.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years Kay Lewis Miller. One son Gregory Dean Miller, one daughter Karen Miller Harter, step-son Jeff Stone (Lynn), grandsons Sean (Chelsea) Miller, Jacob Imlay (Hye Jin), Austin Harter, granddaughter Sarah Pierce (D.J.), great-grandchildren Chloe and Carter Pierce, Jacob and William Imlay, and Hadley Miller, niece Susan Black (Mike Brinning), nephews Bill and Doug  Black, sister-in-law Sharon Miller, nieces Jill and Jayna.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law Donna and Bill Black, his brother Doug Miller, and a niece Julie Miller. He was “Uncle Larry” to so many and will be remembered by many friends and his church family for his ornery sense of humor and his attention to detail when a job was to be done. He loved to write poetry and would “grace” many with a birthday, anniversary card, or a good times poem. He would always seek out that special birthday card for his pals. He was competitive whether it be bowling, jarts, or playing cards.

Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thur. Dec. 27, 2018 at Rolling Plains United Methodist Church and one hour prior to the service which will be held at 11:00 a.m. Fri. Dec. 28, 2018 at the church with Pastor Alethea Botts officiating. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rolling Plains United Methodist Church or Genesis Hospice.
