Delbert M. Smith, 83 of Zanesville, formerly of Mount Perry, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at Genesis Morrison House Hospice with his family by his side on his 53rd wedding anniversary.
Born January 10, 1939 in Zanesville, Ohio to the late Jesse W. and Helen (Hardin) Smith-Yarger.
He was a member of the Perry County Farm Bureau, and the Zanesville Bowling Hall of Fame having achieved five perfect (300) games.
Delbert was an avid farmer and loved the outdoors. He loved cattle, enjoyed making round bales of hay, and riding his golf cart for work and pleasure. His cinnamon rolls were always a treat. He looked forward to going to the Muskingum Livestock Auction barn every Wednesday and checking out the cattle and chatting with his farmer friends until his health prevented him from doing so, therefore he continued to watch it on his tv at home.
He enjoyed playing euchre with his family and friends, listening to the old country music, and watching sports on TV as well. He was a generous and kind man who loved his life, while teaching people the value of hardwork, commitment, and integrity. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him. We will forever cherish his words of wisdom and sayings about life. His love for us cannot be replaced.
Delbert is survived by the love of his life, his wife and best friend, Joy (Hines) Smith who were married on December 14, 1969. (53 years); two daughters, Christine(Don) Hampp and Sherri Smith; granddaughters Rachel(Josh), Donna(Wesley), Treva, and Keylee; one great granddaughter arriving soon; a brother and a sister; numerous nephews and nieces; brother in law, Jack(Nina) Hines; sister in laws Bonnie M. Smith, Louanna Hines, and Connie Hines. In addition to his parents, Delbert was preceded in death by his brother, Clifford Smith, sister in law Janie Hines, brother in laws Max, Rex, Larry(Buck), and Tom Hines; mother and father in law, Lee and Jane Hines.
No calling hours or services will be observed. A private service for family was held with Pastor Jamie Harrop officiating.
A thank you to Hospice, the Cancer Center, and Genesis hospital for his care. A special thank you to Pastor Jamie Harrop who we will forever be grateful.
