Mount Perry- Ellen Rose Mason passed away peacefully on June 15, 2025 in her homesurrounded by family. Ellen was a devoted Christian and attended the Full Gospel Cornerstone Church in Duncan Falls, Ohio.
She was born Ellen Rose Wood in Little Rock, Arkansas on July 20, 1945 to Thomas E. Wood, Jr. and Iva Melissa [Gay] Wood Peck.
Ellen was preceded in death by both of her parents; one daughter, Shelly A. Kendall; twograndchildren, Eric M. Kendall, and Josie A. Gleason; two brothers, Mike Wood and Paul Wood; a step-mother, Sue Wood; in-laws, Larry & Mary Mason; sister-in-laws, Kimberly Mason and Paula Mason, a very treasured father figure, Vernon Groves; brother-at-heart, Ronald Groves; many other relatives; and her loyal fur-baby and trucking co-pilot, Me Lady Girl.
Ellen is survived by her husband of 53 years, Bob Mason, of the home; four sisters, Donita Chapman of Mount Perry, Vickie Norris of McConnelsville, Carol Jean Roberts of South Carolina, and Joni Kreitz of Malta; brother-at heart, Wayne (Randa) Groves of Somerset; four children, James A. Moore (and Linda) of Zanesville, Timi (Tom) Bussey of Roseville, Selena Lewellen of Buckeye Lake, and Valerie (Todd) Wiggins of Roseville; foster-daughter, Patty Groves of Zanesville; 12 grandchildren, Christina (Keston) Curtis, James A. Moore, Jr., Jeremy Moore, Megan Moore, Jeffrey Scott Gleason, Jr., Shayna Guiler, Mariah Lewellen (and Jerrod Steele), Makyla Lewellen (and Shane Holbert), Brody Wiggins (and Victoria Cannon), and Lance (Molly) Wiggins; 19 great-grandchildren; and three brothers-in-law, Bill (Patricia) Mason of Mount Perry, James Mason of Mount Perry, and Christopher (Toni) Mason of Oregon.
Ellen was always an excellent employee and worked several jobs, including factory work, until she began a successful career as an insurance agent for Monumental Life Insurance Company where she achieved the high honor of Saleswoman of the Year.
Ellen was also successful in pursuing self-employment. She was a seamstress for several years and then she and Bob started the B&E Western Store. Ellen finally settled into truck driving which was her favorite career of all. She and Bob owned and operated the E&R Trucking Company since 1985 being leased on with Putnam Transfer and Putnam Truckload Direct for over 30 years.
In her personal life, Ellen was enjoyed gardening, sewing, wood-crafting, painting pottery, and spending time with family. She was also an avid lover of all animals but held a special love for horses and dogs. She leaves behind several dogs that she and Bob have rescued over the years including her beloved boxer, Jazz, her full-time dachshund companion, Princess, and other dogs, Lakeeta Blue, Macie, Willie, and Buddy.
Services will be held at William Thompson & Son funeral home. Calling hours will be observedon Tuesday, June 17, 2025 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at 11:00am with the burial to follow at Fultonham Cemetery. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Arica Reeves,NP and her staff at the Country Drive Inn Medical Practice LLC for their extraordinary care and compassion, and also to Shriver's Hospice.
