Helen Ione Sands (Whitehead), 93, passed away early Wednesday October 5, 2022 at The Oaks at Northpointe. She was born on January 2, 1929, one of thirteen children born to the late Frances and Anna (Pugh) Whitehead. Helen was married to Roy Sands who preceded her in death in 2017 and together they had a successful cabinet making business for many years. She was a member of the South Zanesville United Methodist Church. In her working years, she performed secretarial duties for Ohio Power and Nelson McCoy Pottery. She enjoyed traveling and playing cards with family and friends. They traveled to Florida in their Airstream trailer for several years during the winter months.

She is survived by two children, son Kendall (Cathy) Sands, daughter Tami Sands; grandchildren Josh (Sally) Murphy, Heather (Jon) Wright,, Brian Sands, and Kelly (Bryan) Wright; great-grandchildren Deacon Boggs, Brynn Wright, Ethan, Josie, and Asher Wright; siblings Anna Mae Frame, Ruby Core, Shirley (Jan) Harlan, Richard (Mary Ann) Whitehead, Jim (Beth) Whitehead. 

In addition to her parents and husband Roy Sands, she was preceded in death by a son Roderick Roy Sands; siblings Max Whitehead, Lloyd Whitehead, Frances Whitehead Jr., Mary Alice Syphers, Dora Novaria, Ruhama Ulen, and Donna Peck. 

Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 Noon on Saturday October 8, 2022 at William Thompson & Son Funeral Home 5765 Gladstone Drive where services will follow at 12:00 Noon with Rev. Jeff Belt officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
