John Wesley Tignor, 97, longtime member of the White Cottage community, passed away suddenly on January 7, 2022 to join the Lord in Heaven along with all his family members which preceded him. He was born on August 7, 1924, in East Fultonham, a son of the late Richard and Arvilla Tignor. He was a World War II Army veteran who was a part of the landing on Omaha Beach on D-Day. He was a longtime member of the Fair Oaks Baptist Church, serving as Deacon Emeritus. He was a member of the Newton Township Volunteer Fire Department for 36 years and was a 61 year member of the Muskingum Lodge #368 F&AM. He is survived by his daughter Amy (David) McCauley. Grandchildren Richard Wood, Mercedes (Michael) Potter, Julia (Daniel) McGill, Wesley (Ashley) Tignor, Matthew Tignor, and Katie Tignor. Great-grandchildren Faith Wood, Hannah Wood, Joel Wood, Jr., Rory Beeson, Annabelle Tignor, Elliot Tignor, and Oliver Tignor. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Joanna Tignor, daughter Cynthia (Tignor) Wood, son Michael Tignor, grandson Joel Wood, Sr., great-granddaughter Rachel Jean Wood, brothers Charlie Tignor and Tom Tignor. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Wed. Jan. 12,2022 at William Thompson & Son Funeral Home 5765 Gladstone Drive White Cottage and also from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. on Thur. Jan. 13, 2022 where funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. David McCauley assisted by Rev. Mark Shoemaker officiating. Burial will be in Wesley Union Cemetery, Muskingum Lodge #368 will conduct Masonic services at 7:45 p.m. Wed. Jan. 12. Zanesville VFW and American Legion will conduct military honors at the cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Fair Oaks Baptist Church.
