Joseph Arthur Burns Obituary

Joseph Arthur Burns, 84, of Zanesville, passed away at 9:45 a.m. Tue. Nov. 21, 2023 at Genesis Hospice-Morrison House. He was born on Sept. 1, 1939 in Zanesville, a son of the late William Burns, Sr. and Matilda (Krouskoupf) Burns. He graduated from Zanesville High School in 1957.He had previously been employed at Harris Pharmacy, Greiners Flowers, Clossman Hardware, and retired from Genesis Healthcare System in July 2004 after 21 years of service.  He was a member of the First Christian Church where he served as a deacon.


He is survived by his wife Janet Frances Burns whom he married on Oct. 3, 1960. One daughter Joyce (Burns) and Craig Dodson. Four grandchildren Michael Craig (Tiffany) Sprankle, Cody (Ashley) Sprankle, Doug (Katie) Dodson, and Kayla (Benny) Hinkle. Nine great-grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother William Burns, Jr. and one sister Dorothy Jean Smith. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Fri. Nov. 24, 2023 at Zanesville Memorial Park with Rev. Laureen Roe officiating. William Thompson & Son Funeral Home in White Cottage is assisting the Burns family.
