Linnie Slack Obituary

Linnie Irene Slack (Young) was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. On June 6, 2022, she breathed her last earthly breath before joining her Heavenly Father and the love of her life, Virgil Slack at Heaven's gate.

Linnie was born to the late Elmer and Edna Young of Avondale on Christmas Eve in 1925, where she was placed in a baby doll bed under the Christmas tree to be found by her family. All who knew Linnie would say this was fitting because she was such a precious gift. Linnie was the third of six sisters: Lulu, Esther, Audrey, Evelyne, and Florence whom she dearly loved.

Linnie was a graduate of Lash High School of Zanesville. After high school, she married the late Virgil Howard Slack in 1946. They were blessed with three sons, Gale, Larken and Van who were raised and worked on the family farm.

Linnie was a woman of faith who began each day at the kitchen table having her "Bible Time" with her Heavily Father and ended each day "saying her prayers" before drifting off to sleep. She was a life-long member of Rolling Plains United Methodist Church where she attended and taught Sunday School, enjoyed Bible studies with friends and worked behind the scenes preparing food, praying for others, and never sought or needed recognition.

Linnie was a quiet and humble woman who was content with her life as a homemaker, serving at church or spending time with family and friends. Much like Linnie's life, her kitchen was full of activity. She was an excellent cook, an avid baker, and always had something in the oven. Anyone who stopped by, would never leave without their sweet tooth satisfied. Her baked goods were especially enjoyed by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Through the years, Linnie prepared many delicious meals enjoyed by her family as they gathered around the table in her home. Afterward, the kitchen would be cleaned, games played, family stories shared, and love and laughter abound.

Linnie was an avid gardener and seamstress. On beautiful summer days, visitors would often find her working the vegetable garden welding her garden hoe or tending to her many flowers and flower beds.  When inside, she kept busy mending her family's clothes, sewing her own, or creating things for her loved ones. On breaks, you could often find Linnie swinging her cares away on the porch swing while sipping a glass of her homemade sweet tea watching the many butterflies and hummingbirds flit and flutter about her flowers.

Through the years, Linnie spent many joyous hours caring for her grandchildren in her home.  She lovingly provided many cooking, baking and sewing lessons along with trips to church and Sunday school. She would often say, "The kids are what keep me going!". In more recent years, Linnie enjoyed being the recipient of her grandchildren's and great grandchildren's loving care and devotion as they helped her with day to day tasks, fixed her hair, painted her nails and attended to her every need.

Linnie is survived by her children Gale (Darlene) Slack of Cardington, Larken (Jackie) Slack of Roseville, and Van (Melissa) Slack of Roseville; five grandchildren Nathan (Erin) Slack; Andrea (Jonathan) Johnson; Ashley (Jeff-"J.J.") Wheeler; Cory Slack; Abigail Slack and Hannah Slack; and five great-grandchildren; her sisters Evelyn (Dale) Browning and Florence Owens and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Linnie was preceded in death by her husband of 58 yrs. Virgil H. Slack and her sisters Lulu Mock, Esther Shilling and Audrey Smith.
