Rev. Robert L. Powell, 92, of Roseville (Avondale), passed away at his home on Wednesday, July 3, 2024.
He was born January 18, 1932, in White Cottage, a son of the late William and Lucy Wright Powell.
He is survived by his daughters Debbie (Michael) Powell Heims Sales and Carolyn (Jim) Morrison; Five grandchildren Candace (Nathaniel) Hudson, Burt (Amy) Brown, Holly (Shane) Baugess, Anissa (Brandon) Pooser and Anthony (Laura) Heims.  With the marriage of Debbie and Michael Sales, we include their children Brendon (Brittany) Sales, Breanne (Justin) Flowers and Amberlee (Chris) Talavera; sixteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; Two sisters Roberta Hartley and Wilma Barrows; Three sisters-in-law, Rheta Powell, Eleanor Fulkerson, and Ina Ann Knupp; son-in-law David (Annie) Brown; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Lou Fulkerson Powell; his two daughters, Diane Brown and Cynthia Powell; grandson, Brandon Morrison; son-in-law Tony Heims; brothers William Powell and Jim Powell; his sister Virginia Carson; brother in laws William Carson, Robert Hartley, and Stanley Barrows; nephew and foster son, Tim Rasor along with several other nephews.
Robert married his high school sweetheart, Mary Lou Fulkerson, in 1950, and they were happily married and constant companions for 74 years.
Robert planted and pastored the Cambridge United Pentecostal Church for 23 years before retiring from the pastorate.  He continued to assist the new pastor, Rev. Sharp until they moved to the Avondale community in 2006.  They assisted Pastor Young in New Lexington for several years before health issues restricted travel.  They then attended the Anchor Church, pastored by Rev. Bounds in Zanesville until their passing.
Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2024, at the Anchor Church in Zanesville.  Funeral services will be held at the church on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., with additional visitation from noon until service time.  Pastor Aaron Bounds officiating.  Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.  William Thompson and Son Funeral Home in White Cottage is assisting the Powell family.
