Verna Williams Obituary

Verna “Maureen” (Adams) Williams, 84,  passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2021, surrounded by her family.Maureen was born January 25, 1937, at the Old Bethesda Hospital, Zanesville, Ohio.   She was the oldest of eight children of the late Stephen Orville and Verna Evelyn (Harris) Adams.  Maureen was a 1955 graduate of Roseville High School.  She was married to Harry “Jack” Williams for 63 years, as he preceded her in death,  March of 2020.Maureen was a member of the East Fultonham United Methodist Church, where she served as church treasurer, children’s choir leader, and  involved in the United Methodist Women’s Society.  Maureen loved her church family.   She was a member of the Limestone Valley Lions Club. She retired after 37 years from the Muskingum County Board of Developmental Disabilities in Zanesville as a special education teacher, receiving her BA from Ohio University.       Maureen enjoyed working with her students and parents especially organizing the Holiday Concerts.Maureen golfed in the women’s league at Green Valley and played cards with friends from  East Fultonham, often playing “Rook”  at Lake Isabella.  She enjoyed reading,  crafting,  played the steele guitar and piano.    She also loved traveling with Jack (husband) on vacations to Texas, Florida, Myrtle Beach and the East Coast.  Family was most  important to her with many special meals prepared with love to perfection.Her loving family includes – daughter, Darlene (Pat) Williams- Baker, and  son, Jack E. (Tina) Williams.  Grandchildren  - Bryan  Baker, Amy Baker, Ryan Williams, Matthew (Skyler) Williams, Teresa Smith and Brandi (Andy) Robinson.   Maureen has great-grandchildren – Avery, Gibson, Megan, Joy and Presley.Living siblings and brothers-in-law/sisters-in-law include:  Doris Stoops, Audrey Wieser, Carole Carney, Linda (Bob) Hasselberger, Earle (Beckie) Adams, and Donna Adams.  Many nieces/nephews:  Scott (Debbie) Mingus,  Peggy Mingus-Potts, Debbie (Jeff) Sayre, Doug (Melissa) Stoops, Missy Ayres, Cale (Kristy) Ayres,  Greg (Dee) Murgatroyd, Jim Murgatroyd, Terry Jardine, Marty (Pam) Hasselberger, Vicki (Tony) Mills, David Clark, Kim (Dennis) Bussey, Chris Adams, Stacey Adams-Dillon, Troy (Wendy) Adams, Tommy (Amanda) Adams,  Tim (Tonda) Adams, and Mary Kay Nelson.  She has many great nieces and nephews.  Maureen’s great-niece, Samantha Adams, became her guardian angel, giving unconditional love, often times bringing Maureen special treats and giving encouragement.She is preceded in death by her sister-in-law/brother-in-law, Mary (Bob) Williams-Mingus; sister/brother-in-law, Janet (Danny) Clark; brother, Stephen Adams; brothers-in-laws; Rodney Stoops, John Wieser and Riecky Carney; and nephews, Norman Hasselberger, Andy Potts, Jody Murgatroyd, and Gary Jardine.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the East Fultonham United Methodist Church or your favorite food pantry.Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday July 14, 2021 at William Thompson & Son Funeral Home 5765 Gladstone Drive White Cottage where funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Thursday July 15, 2021. Pastor John Coleman officiating.  Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
