William H. "Bill" Butler, 84, of Zanesville, formerly of South Zanesville, passed away peacefully at the Morrison House at 4:00 a.m. Friday June 25, 2021 after a long and brave battle with cancer. He was born on June 17, 1937 in Zanesville, a son of the late William F. and Helen M. Butler. He was raised in South Zanesville. He worked at Greiner's Dairy Farm as a young boy, at Meadow Gold Dairy Farm for 10 years, and then worked 30 years at Ohio Bell. After retiring, he then worked at Tat's Pizzeria for 10 years. He was a volunteer firefighter for the village of South Zanesville for 15 years and was president of the South Zanesville Council for 15 years. He coached biddy league basketball for several years. Bill was an avid fan of Maysville and loved attending his children's and grandchildren's sporting events. He also loved and collected all things from the Civil War and was a huge Penn State fan.
Surviving Bill is the love of his life for the past 66 years Elizabeth (Jane) Hilliard Butler whom he married on August 1, 1955. His children Bob (Kim) Butler of Zanesville, Patrick (Paula) Butler of Beavercreek, Ohio, and Marianne (John) Tatman of Zanesville. His beloved and devoted dog Maggie who was always on his lap.
Bill also leaves behind grandchildren Bo (Erin), Mindy (Kenny), Misty, Brandi, Megan, Ryan (Heather), Jordyn (Ray), Jade (Jordan), Reid (Miho) Kory, Jake, Connor, Lacie (Seth), Kaylie, whom he loved beyond words. Great-grandchildren Ryan, Jaxson, Owen, Rylee, Cydney, Tori, Gracie, Austin, Klayton, Khloe, Payson, Harlow, Hatcher, Torie, and Michael. Great-greatgrandchildren Alina, Aries and Haven Rose. Bill also has one nephew Doug (Mary) Stemm, special sister-in-law and brother-in-law Carolyn and Melvin Robinson. Two daughter-in-laws Diane Butler and Neana Butler.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Katherine and Barb and his oldest son Bo Butler. His father and mother-in-law Leroy and Dorothy Hilliard. His brother-in-law Virgil Stemm and nephew Rusty Stemm.
Fly high and rest easy Dad, you will be missed every day and we will take care of Mom. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Genesis Hospice-Morrison House. Bill's wishes were to be cremated.
